5 things you can do to manage your health using the NHS App
Over 33 million people in England now use the NHS App to manage their health. Whether you’re at home, work or school, it’s a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services and information on your smartphone or tablet – and better still, it’s improving all the time.
Anyone over the age of 16 can use the App and here are five things you can now use the NHS App to do.
View your GP health record
The NHS App enables you to view your GP health record to help you better understand and manage your condition, without having to phone your GP surgery. With the App you can access your consultation notes, letters and test results.
Order repeat prescriptions
The NHS App also enables you to manage repeat prescriptions and easily change your nominated pharmacy, so you can send orders when it’s convenient for you.
Each prescription ordered electronically saves GP practices three minutes of time and a patient 18 minutes, making it more convenient for people and freeing up frontline staff to do other important duties.
Manage your GP and hospital appointments
The App makes it easy to access your GP appointment information and manage any upcoming hospital appointments.
You can cancel or request to change an appointment at our surgery using the App.
And if you’ve been referred for a hospital appointment or treatment, the NHS App now shows an estimated waiting time for your treatment at NHS hospital trusts too. (This goes live on 30 January 2024 in the App).
Get help when the practice is closed
You can find out your NHS number and access NHS 111 online to get instant advice or medical help near you when the practice is closed.
See messages from the surgery or hospital
Messages, letters, questionnaires, invitations and reminders; you’ll receive a text or email to let you know you have new messages waiting for you in the NHS App. This saves waiting for letters in the post but you’ll still receive letters if this is your preferred method of staying in touch.
New and innovative features will continue to be developed for the NHS App to help patients access convenient and high-quality care when and where they need it.
